MOOD Youth Camp charity shoot is right around the corner

lschultz • July 9, 2019

On August 9, Michigan United Conservation Clubs is hosting its 2019 Michigan Out-of-Doors Youth Camp Charity Shoot at Multi-Lakes Conservation Association.

The funds raised from this event will go towards the Michigan Out-of-Doors Youth Camp in Chelsea, MI. Since 1946, the MOOD Youth Camp has instilled values of conservation and natural resources stewardship in more than 58,000 youth. The funds raised will help to introduce more children to the outdoors, buy needed camp supplies and plant MUCC’s message of uniting citizens to conserve, protect and enhance Michigan’s natural resources and outdoor heritage in the next generation of conservationists.

Last year, $14,000 was raised for camp. This year, we have a goal of raising $15,000, and we need your help! Since 2018, the funds raised have helped to stain the cabins, make range improvements and route new water lines to the buildings. The funds also go towards the continuation of programming about hunting, fishing, trapping and conservation education.

The shoot will consist of a 50-target sporting clay course covering 12 stations. There will be prizes awarded to the top gun, top gun runner up and the overall winning team. Lunch will be provided!

If you are interested in attending the event, visit this webpage for more information. Here you will find payment information and individual shooter/team registration. Even as an individual shooter, your contribution matters . If you are looking to support conservation while spending a Friday shooting clays, this is the event for you!

Come tune up for duck, grouse and woodcock season. Spend the afternoon with friends or conservationists you just met. Representatives from the Michigan DNR and Michigan Out-of-Doors will be on-hand and shooting.

Please spread the word and share this information with friends, family and any companies or organizations you can think of that would like to support this cause. With your help, we can support conservation education and future generations of conservationists together.

Multi-Lakes Conservation Association is located at 3860 Newton Rd, Commerce Charter Twp, MI 48382. There are three flight times starting at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ian FitzGerald at ifitzgerald@mucc.org.

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, MUCC’s OTG program partnered with the Clinton River Watershed Council and Metro-West Steelheaders to host the annual Clinton River clean-up at Yates Park. Volunteers removed about 270 pounds of trash from the riverbanks and the surrounding watershed. Approximately 80.3 acres of fish and wildlife habitat were directly impacted by this project, in addition to improving local outdoor recreational opportunities. Cleaning up the watershed is critical for ensuring safe drinking water, safe recreation, and a clean habitat for fish and wildlife alike.

Oaks are a critical tree species for wildlife in Michigan as they provide food, cover, and long-term habitat in forests, field edges, and public lands. Both red oaks and white oaks are native to Michigan, but there are differences in management between the species, making an impact on conservation and hunting success. The growth patterns are important to understand when planning for land management due to variation in growth, acorn production (mast), and wildlife use.
