The Spartans (10-0) are off to their best start since the 2000-01 season, when they won their first 12 games. Michigan State is coming off an easy 78-35 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday night. The Spartans had total control of this one and did it with unselfish play as they finished with 25 assists on 27 made baskets. Michigan State played very well without Denzel Valentine at 100%. The Spartans leading scorer was “a little sick” according to Tom Izzo, but still managed to put up 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in the win. Looking ahead, Michigan State will take on Northeastern and Oakland before starting its Big Ten conference slate.

The Gators (6-2) had reeled off three straight wins before losing to in-state rival Miami Tuesday night. Florida was unable to overcome 39 percent shooting from the field, including a 1-of-12 showing from three-point range and fell to Miami for the second consecutive year by a 66-55 count. John Egbunu led the Gators with 14 points, while Dorian Finney-Smith was held to just 12 points and six boards. Following its bout with MSU, Florida has matchups against Oklahoma State, Jacksonville and Florida State before it gets into SEC play.

Michigan State and Florida will meet for the seventh time on Saturday in a series currently knotted 3-3. The Gators took the last meeting in 2009, 77-74, knocking off the Spartans in the Legends Classic.

Niang and Uthoff are both going to take what they want on the offensive end, but the slight edge goes to Niang playing it up for the home crowd. Morris will be a thorn in Iowa's side, too. He'll be pesky on defense and force some turnovers, but he'll also set up his teammates with open looks all night. Both teams will shoot well from the perimeter, but Iowa State will keep the Hawkeyes from pulling down offensive rebounds, which is a big part of their game. Look for Jameel McKay to do work inside, too. He'll get some shots to fall and help the Cyclones pull this one out.
