MUCHMORE CONFIRMED AS NEWEST MEMBER OF MICHIGAN NATURAL RESOURCES TRUST FUND BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Lansing, Mich. — Dennis C. Muchmore, Executive Director of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs, today was confirmed by unanimous vote of the Michigan Senate as a member of the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board of Trustees.

“I am honored by the confidence placed in me by both Governor Granholm and the Senate to serve the mission and purpose of the trust fund, which stands as an important steward of Michigan’s natural resources,” said Muchmore. “I will represent the people of the state to the best of my ability and their interest in the MNRTF by upholding the Constitutional pillars that sustain its long term role of funding public acquisition of lands for resource protection and public outdoor recreation.”

The 71-year old MUCC, the state’s largest and oldest conservation organization, has a long tradition of involvement with the MNRTF, which was originally formed in 1976 as the Kammer Recreational Land Trust Fund.

MUCC was among the original advocates for Constitutional protection of the fund to which oil, gas and mineral royalties are paid to support the state’s efforts in natural resource management. Michigan voters in 1984 voted to amend the State Constitution and create the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, its board governance and the manner in which monies in the fund may be used.

Senate Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Committee Chair Sen. Patty Birkholz commented, “Dennis will be an excellent asset to the Trust Fund board. Not only does he possess the qualifications, he has the willingness, experience and vision to help the board complete its daily responsibilities, and also look to the resource protection needs of a new era.”

Since its inception, the executive director of the MUCC has held a seat on the MNRTF Board of Trustees.
