Michigan United Conservation Clubs passed a resolution at its Annual Convention in June to ensure that royalties from state-owned minerals like oil and gas continue to be used for conservation purposes by protecting the current Trust Fund from diversion and creating a Fish and Wildlife Habitat Trust Fund with the royalties once the State Parks Endowment Fund reaches its cap, which is where royalties are currently deposited.
The Trust Fund was originally created in 1976 and protected in the Michigan Constitution in 1984. MUCC played a critical role in its foundation and has been protecting it ever since.
