Continued Support for Mute Swan ManagementAugust 23rd, 2012
Mute swan management has been a hot issue for the Department of Natural Resources recently. The DNR is considering alternative methods for management of the invasive species and last week the Humane Society of the United States submitted a recommendation that the DNR cease lethal control methods until the management plan is revised.
Mute Swans not only gained the attention of the Humane Society, but the online lobbying website of Change.org. The website posted a petition calling on the DNR to continue the control and reduction of mute swan populations in Michigan. The petition requires an electronic signature and highlights the support of hunters and wildlife conservationists in controlling mute swans. The online petition can be found here.
