Army Corps to Speed Up Asian Carp StudyMay 8th, 2012
A recent A.P. article reported that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will speed up its timeline of studying Asian Carp prevention in the Great Lakes basin.
The Army Corps will release a list of possible solutions sometime next year, as opposed to late 2015 as the Army Corps previously stated it needed to study and develop a single solution. It will then be up to Congress and the public to decide which solution they want to move forward with, and Congress will be responsible for passing funding.
This does not guarantee a solution will be in place any sooner, as a lot will depend on Congress to agree to a plan and agree to funding (which you can never hold your breath on). This is, however, a positive step in the campaign to stop Asian carp and proof that our advocacy is making a difference – even with the previously stubborn Army Corps.
