Having visited the PRCSF 5-6 times annually for the last 10-12 years it appears to me there has been a steady increase in timber harvest, especially in the last 2-3 years. Detracts from the idea of “The Great Wild”, but viewing and hearing the bugling elk is the reason I am there.

I bird hunted the Pigeon this Fall and saw the least elk sign I’ve seen in years. Because of the miniscule cutting there (and I may be wrong) but I suspect they’re slowly filtering out of the Pigeon into the surrounding areas for lack of quality browse…

Your local farmers might not like elk eating their crops.

Your neighbors might not like elk eating their petunias and shrubs. Better research more elk before you get them.

The last elk management plan was done in 1984. The overarching goals are pretty much consistent with the approach being taken now, but there are additional sub-goals/tactics under each which may be a new/revised way to achieve these goals.
