I am owner of Frog Marsh LLC in Mason Co.I just enrolled my land in this program last year.I had two problems.I do have a pole barn on the property.Plus my land had over the limit in wetlands.I came out around 75% forested land.You need 80%.I contacted the co. equalization dept. at the court house in Ludington.Told them my problem and what I wanted to do with the land.Turns out the dept. manager did the same thing with his 80 acres a few years earlier.Anyway I was told to come down and they would help me create two new parcels.Onewas writing out 1.5 acres with the pole barn and a food plot located close to it[non forested].Then we created and wrote out 20 acres of Frog Marsh itself.Getting me back to 80% min. forested land.It created two new parcels with their own legal descriptions.Then my forest plan was submitted with the remainder of the land under it’s own new legal description that complied with all requirments of the law.The DNR and my local township acessor had no problem with this.Plan was approved.

i have serious doubts about any government cash handouts. i believe restrictions and requirements will make it a bad offer, if not now, then soon. The multi-agency Urban Waters will impose such restrictions for each drop of water “from the forest to the faucet”. The target is the privately held forests that are “so in need of proper management” (that only the government can provide – added). Plus read the three “Edge” books to see what is being planned. Just saying..

I represent the Roundhouse Forty LLC owning 240 ac in Forest Twp, Missaukee Cty. We have an approved Forestry Plan by the DNR, but we have a 70 yr old deer hunting cabin on the property. We would like to see the above bills passed, as we want to clean up our forests, help us and the State. What can I do to help?

Not allowing a structure on the property makes very little sense. If I owned 80 acres and my house “area” occupied 2, there could still be 78 acres of managed forest. Also, the fine for withdrawing from the plan will cause many not to consider it. Good idea, but I could do the same thing on my own without paying fees.
